511 System

If you commute daily on our nation’s highways, or you’re planning an upcoming road trip, the 511 system can be an invaluable resource to you.  The 511 system is a national traveler’s resource set up and run by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).  35 states currently participate in the 511 system, including Pennsylvania.  The system allows drivers in participating states/cities to dial “511″ on their phones and receive real-time traffic information, such as:

  • Road closures.
  • Accidents.
  • Route detours.
  • Weather alerts.
  • AMBER alerts.
  • Border crossing wait times.
  • Highway conditions.
  • Ride-sharing details.
  • Live camera feeds.

For more information you can dial “511” or 877-511-PENN (7366) or check out the website at: http://www.511pa.com/
