The Meadville Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, or VITA, is back for tax year 2012. Meadville VITA provides free tax preparation services to local low-income and elderly families. If you have trouble filing your taxes, have not filed taxes, or have tax questions, then VITA can help. In 2011, they prepared and filed federal and state tax returns for about 270 Meadville area families, and are looking to double the number of clients helped this tax year. Any Meadville area residents or families with incomes of $50,000 or less in tax year 2012 are eligible for free tax preparation services through VITA.
The Meadville VITA program is a partnership between Allegheny College, the United Way of Western Crawford County, the Meadville Public Library, and the IRS, and is supported by the Crawford Heritage Foundation. VITA has been found to provide highly accurate returns, and to increase refund size by ensuring that taxpayers receive all the credits for which they are eligible. Also, e-filing ensures much faster refunds than traditional filing, and there are several options available for receiving refunds or making payments.
The VITA program offers regular hours at the Meadville Public Library located at 848 N. Main St. The VITA Free Tax Site at the Library will be open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 12 to 5 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm in the conference room in the Fiction department on the top floor of the library. The VITA Free Tax Site will be open for appointments or walk-ins from February 4 to April 12, 2013. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment please contact Meadville VITA at 814-795-4650.

Beginning January 2nd, 2013 you will able to reserve books from your account in our catalog at http://catalog.ccfls.org. Once you log in with your library card number and password (the default password is your last name, you can change it after you log in) just click the Place Hold button from the item’s record. If the item is not a type that can be reserved there will be no Place Hold button.
If we have your email address and your messaging settings are set to send you an email when a hold is filled, you will get an email notification when the item you requested is waiting for you. You can change your messaging settings after you log into your account under the My Messaging tab. If you choose to receive email notifications of your holds there is no charge; if you still prefer to receive notifications in the mail you will still have to pay the reserve fee.
If we have your email address on record you will find it on your account under My Personal Details. If you need to change the address stop by the circ desk the next time you’re in the library.
